William's New Toy

William is growing so fast!  He really likes to be sitting up or even standing on our laps.  All of the toys we had for him involved him laying down, and I felt like it was time for something new.  After seeking the advice of some friends and reading many reviews, we made the trip to Babies R Us Friday for an exersaucer. I really think he likes it!
This picture is of him looking in the mirror, I missed a precious smile by about 5 seconds.

We had a busy weekend.  Patrick was in a friend's wedding so we had the rehearsal on Friday and the wedding Saturday night.  With William's recent attachment to me and occasional nighttime crying spells, I was very concerned about getting a babysitter.  I didn't want to scare anyone away!  So Granna came to the rescue.  It was such a relief knowing he would be with someone who would love him no matter how much he would cry.  Mom, thanks again for everything, we enjoyed having you here!  We finished off the weekend with a great lunch with the extended Ledet clan.  Grandy and Pops just returned from an Alaskan cruise so we all met today to celebrate a belated Father's Day.  We're really looking forward to being with everyone again soon at the BEACH!

Squeaky Wheel Doesn't Always Get the Grease...

At least not at our house! Look at what arrived in the mail yesterday for the Ledet family!

I saw Patrick carrying a box inside yesterday afternoon, and I assumed (and you know what that means!) it was an order of his prescriptions. Then a little while later I was in William's room and in walks Patrick snapping pictures with this thing! I was shocked! I had dinner plans, so I didn't get to play with it right away. When I got home I asked Patrick what made him change his mind about the camera because he had been very against it no matter how hard I tried to convince him that we needed it. I had finally stopped talking about and said that I was asking for it for Christmas and there wasn't much he could do about it. He said it was probably because I had stopped bugging him about it that brought him around. I should have known that that's the way my husband works.

Anyways, I am so very thankful for this family camera and for a husband who always finds the best ways to surprise me and make me remember how lucky I am.

Around Here

Look at this big boy!  I can't believe it has been three months since he was born.  It's been kinda slow around here the past few days/weeks and we are enjoying life.
William has a pretty good schedule going on during the day, the times may change but the general routine stays the same.  I'm a creature of habit and love predictability, so I'm happy.  Our day typically goes something like this:  William wakes up and eats, I hurry to get us dressed and to the gym while he's happy baby.  He typically falls asleep on the way home from the gym so I get to shower while he naps.  Once he wakes up I feed him again then we hang out on a blanket in his room for about an hour or longer until he gets fussy.  The minute he starts his tired fuss, we read a book, rock for maybe 5 minutes then I put him in his crib and he's out again. He rolled himself over onto his tummy in this next picture, this has become his preferred sleep position for naps.  We still swaddle him at night to try to keep him from rolling over during the night.
He repeats his eat, play, sleep routine about three times a day.  We're trying to keep him awake between his 4/5:00 and 7/8:00 feedings so he'll be tired and will sleep longer at night.  Lately he's been staying awake, but after his bath he is tired and hungry so we end up with a crying spell.  We're working it out.

In addition to rolling over, William is also laughing and really grabbing at things.  Of course, Patrick and I have to work really hard to make him laugh, but all anybody else has to do is talk to him and he's cracking up, it's so unfair!  The other night during dinner we heard the song from William's bouncer, and I looked over and there he was holding on to the lion!  We were so proud!
In other news, I actually have some plants surviving!  My rose bush had started growing new leaves and buds a few weeks ago, but none of the buds would open.  I finally moved it and now I have a rose!  My zinnias are growing as well, no flower yet, but consistent growth.  The container garden and gladiola behind William in the first picture are making it, too.  My biggest adversary right now is an asparagus fern.  The plant that you supposedly can't kill, it looks like I'm killing it.  I've had terrible luck with Boston ferns, so maybe ferns just aren't for me.

A New Wrinkle

I'd like to introduce you to Monkey Poopoohead. He is William's
stuffed monkey. Can you guess who named him? He makes William smile and we got a really cute video when this picture was taken. William had his arm through Monkey P's arms and kept moving his arm up and down and watching Monkey P move too. It was pretty adorable.

Now, this new wrinkle is not too adorable. William has decided that he prefers Mama and Daddy over everyone else. I'm so happy to be able to meet his needs and it makes me feel wonderful to know that this little guy needs me so much, but I'd like him to enjoy being around other people as well. He is such a great baby for me during the day, most every day. The only time he cries is when he's waking up from a nap and is ready to be fed or during the occasional diaper change. Bathtime is occasionally stressful because we can't always get the timing figured out so he's taking a bath as a happy, not hungry, not tired baby.

But he's started screaming. At night. Mainly when he's tired and it's time to go to bed. This past weekend in Franklin, Grandy wasn't able to calm him down for the first time. Neither could Patrick. I finally got him calm and sleeping. It was not fun for anyone involved. Then he started crying during the day when anybody else would hold him.

I have been bringing him to the childcare center at the gym so I can exercise. The first time he went he did great, and was a super happy baby when I went to get him. It has been a downhill spiral ever since. Today the sweet lady who works in there had to come get me because he had reached their limit of crying time. I made sure he was fed right before he went so that wouldn't be a problem. He was totally content when I walked out the door, but apparently he started screaming soon after I left. The ladies asked me to bring a bottle with him next time, which I'll do hoping that will keep him the happy baby I know him to be.

The whole situation worries me. Mainly because he'll be starting daycare in August and I want him to like it and the caregivers to like him. I want him to be a friendly, social baby. We have some things coming up when we'll have to leave William with a sitter and I'm worried that he'll cry the whole time.

I'm hoping this wrinkle will iron itself out soon, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm listening!

My Baby Is Not a Jean Short Baby

This is what William wore yesterday. Originally he had on a cute pair of plaid overalls, but we had an accident and had to change. The only pair of plain shorts William has are a pair of denim ones, so that is what I put on him. And I didn't like it. Not at all. I can't really put my finger on why, but it made me sad to see him wear the shorts. I know, this is petty and I sound insane, but it really bothered me. However, I didn't want to dirty any more clothes, so he sported the jorts all day. I kept him covered with a blanket most of the afternoon. When Patrick came home, I informed him that this would be the only time William would wear the jean shorts, they just aren't for us. The shirt they came with is a really cute polo shirt that we will most definitely wear, but I'm going to have to put the shorts away. They caused too much anxiety.

I'm not sure where my feelings about these shorts come from. I know that I have owned jean shorts in the past, but it's been awhile since I've worn them. I don't think twice if I see someone else wear jean shorts, my dad has some. Apparently though, when it comes to William it's a different story. I'm usually not picky about what William wears as play clothes, either. He's growing so fast I try to make sure we get good use out of all the clothes we have before it's too late. But I don't think these shorts will make another appearance anytime soon.
