Sitting and Reading

Sorry for the lack of posts. Life is busy. William loves all things technology: tvs, telephones, computers, etc. which means I can only sit down and blog if he's sleeping. He also loves paper. Everytime he goes crazy over paper I think of how Patrick's family calls him goat (because of how his cry sounded as a baby) and one of his younger cousins calls William "kid", get it? So I associate the playing with and chewing on the paper with goats and get tickled. Here is William "reading" the sale papers and sitting up like a big boy.

I'll be back soon with some pictures from this weekend. I have some cute ones of William and his first playdate in Thibodaux.

Sick Day

It has happened. Today we had our first sick baby doctor visit. Last week William started with a runny nose, and I noticed him pulling on his ears occasionally. Both of those symptoms can be attributed to teething, so I didn't worry too much. Over the weekend he developed a cough and more congestion. When I picked him up from daycare yesterday I thought he felt warm + I noticed he wasn't really responding to sounds like normal + he was exceptionally quiet. So we took his temperature last night and he did have a slight fever. He hasn't had fever since then, but the pediatrician checked his ear and informed me that they are both infected. Yuck! He's starting an antibiotic + cough/cold medicine and hopefully it'll clear everything up quickly. I'm praying that this is a one time thing and not the start of frequent ear infections.

On a more cheerful note, here are some pictures from Sunday.

Hanging upside down on the Boppy.
Playing with my Murtle.
Murtle is so patient with William. She lets him pull on her for awhile before she gets too bothered. Now when she brings her toys to William he'll grab them so they can play tug!

Adjusting

Well, we survived our introduction to Daycare last week. William did well, I think. He isn't as independent as he is at home, but I think once he is comfortable with his caregivers he'll do fine. He has started taking better naps while he's there and is on a good feeding schedule. It is still difficult for me to handle the daycare situation, but I'm coming to terms with the fact that no place is perfect, and as Patrick said no one will take care of him like I do. Hopefully we have him somewhere that will at least come close.

Now that I'm back at work I'm realizing how valuable every second is. If William is awake, I want to squeeze in all the loving that I missed during the day.  I feel guilty watching tv or playing on the computer.

And there is not enough time in the day! I'm trying to get everything ready the night before to make our mornings go as smoothly as possible. Everything is going okay so far, but William hasn't been too into his cereal in the mornings, so we're giving him extra at night. He is five months old today, and I think we'll celebrate by introducing a vegetable with his evening cereal over the weekend.

These pictures are from this weekend.  We went to Rayne for a wedding and to visit my parents.  In the picture above William is trying out a hobby horse (I think that's what it's called) that my parents have.  I've been looking at some other versions that he may ask Santa to bring.

Here William helped me fold his clothes by grabbing the stack of bibs and shoving them in his face.  His new favorite thing is to rub anything soft hard against his face, like he wants to eat it.  Maybe that's the teething?

He is also still super into his feet, which is cute except for when he is pulling his feet into his mouth as I'm trying to feed him cereal!

D-Day

Today was D-Day. Daycare day. First, let me say William had a great night last night. He slept from 8:30-7:30! It may not happen again for a long time, but last night it was great! I had to wake him up this morning at 7:30 to get the day started and get him to St. Aloysius. I dropped him off around 8:30, and he did fine. I was a basket case as I was leaving the center, but thankfully the women who will be taking care of my baby are wonderful and took the time to take care of me this morning. They already have a special place in my heart.

I let him stay there until 2:30. I figured 6 hours was long enough, and I was concerned about having packed enough bottles. When I went to get him a few of the other first day parents were picking up their babies, so I didn't feel bad. According to his "report card", William didn't nap as well as he does at home, but he was his usual happy baby self with the exception of diaper changing time.

Now we are back home, relaxing. I think Murtle really missed William today. She hung out with him much longer than she normally does when we got home, it was very sweet.

On to other topics, the teething has started. Today especially, the drooling is out of control. William is not really cranky, but he's starting to chew on everything. Every time I hold him he is trying to grab and eat my face! The pediatrician thought she saw the slits for his bottom teeth at his appointment weeks ago, so maybe we'll have teeth soon.
