Memorial Day Weekend

We spent Memorial Day weekend in Grand Isle with Pops and Grandy. Because of the oil spill, (more on that in a later post) the beach and fishing were closed, so we spent lots of time on the porch.

William also has had a few firsts lately.  He's started rolling over from tummy to back!  He tolerates tummy time for a few minutes and when he's had enough to become frustrated he'll roll over.  Such a big boy!  I've been battling a small cold over the weekend, which apparently William thinks is funny.  Saturday evening after I had fed him we walked outside to join Patrick on the porch and when I coughed William laughed out loud!   Patrick fake coughed soon after and William laughed again!  By the time I got my camera to try to catch it on video he was over it,  but it was the sweetest sound in the world. 

Klein's Graduation

I can't believe Klein is going to be a freshman in high school next year! His eighth grade graduation was this past Wednesday. My dad had talked to his principal a few weeks ago and he told him Klein would be receiving an award at the ceremony. Klein received the Woodmen of the World American History award which was given to one student who excells in history classes and displays admirable characteristics such as good citizenship, patriotism, and being an all around good kid. I'm so proud of him! He has gone through the aggravating "I hate the world, the world hates me" puberty stage and is really turning into a cool kid who is fun to be around. He's not scared or jealous of William, which is a major plus, and he put a picture of me holding him in their slide show, so in my book he's pretty great! He's cute, too.

Busy Bees

Another weekend = more traveling!  This time we headed to Thibodaux on Thursday for William's second Sip & See.  Everything was great and William was on his best behavior.  He got a sleepy towards the end and slept for the last 30 minutes or so, but nobody seemed to mind.  Below is a picture of him and Patrick waiting for the festivities to begin.  Jen, if you read this, thanks for the outfit!  We got many compliments. 

Friday morning Patrick headed to Franklin for a bachelor party and William and I headed to Rayne for the weekend.  We did some sofa shopping and lots of hanging out outside.  William loves the outdoors!  Unfortunately we don't have much shade at our house so we don't spend too much time outside.  Hopefully we'll make some progress with the landscaping plans and we'll get some shade eventually.  Here is William enjoying the swing with Granna.

John Daniel (who finally held William this weekend) pulled out his inflatable pool on Saturday and Honey helped William try it out.

It was pretty bright outside so we pulled out our new hat from the Clements to protect William's baby skin and eyes.  Think Honey's a proud grandpa???

More travels are planned for the next three weekends.  Thank goodness William likes a pack-n-play! 

On a side note,  I purchased some zinnia seeds today at Target and I am going to try my best to get them to grow.  I've had some recent success with not killing a rose bush and some begonias from Ms. Lynn, so I thought I'd experiment with these.  Wish me luck!

Baptized In Christ

Today we celebrated William's Baptism. He was baptized at St. Aloysius Catholic Church by Father Blanchard (my favorite!). Patrick and I asked Rachel and Lee to be William's Godparents when he was born and were very happy that they agreed.

At St. Aloysius they focus on the Church as a community, therefore Baptisms are conducted during Mass for the entire congregation to witness. All the little children are welcome to circle around the Baptismal Font and watch as the priests conduct the Baptism. Once the priest has anointed the baby with the water, he parades him to the front of church and presents him to the congregation. William was such a trooper during the whole ceremony. He was awake, alert, and happy! He wore the christening gown worn by Patrick and his brothers that was given to them by their grandmother, Addie. I brought the white blanket my grandma made for Klein before she died that he and John Daniel used for their Baptisms. They were both winter babies and it was a thick blanket so we didn't use it but it was there and that made it very special. I was very emotional all morning, especially when I saw the blanket. I have so much to be thankful for and I feel very blessed to be William's mother. Like Ms. Lynn said, "William completes me."

After Mass we all went to lunch to celebrate, then came back to the house for Fresh Strawberry cake and coffee. Poor William is pooped from such a busy day!

Dimple

Can you see my dimple? I have one, just like my mom!

Speaking of my mom, do you know she tried to damage my brain yesterday? Yes, she did. My doctor told her I needed to exercise my neck, so she took that to heart and expects immediate results. While she was trying to make me look in the other direction, my head slipped out from on top of her knees and fell to the ground onto my playmat. Granted this fall was maybe 2-3 inches max, but it was enough to scare us both into tears and resulted in frantic calls to the doctor, Granna, and my dad. Don't worry though, everything was okay and she's back to the neck exercises today.

I can't believe it

This adorable guy is two months old. He smiles. He "talks". He loves to sit up and stand up. He likes to go for walks. He likes to sleep on his side. His favorite way to be held is chest to chest. I learn something new about him everyday.

We had our two month check up today with William's pediatrician. I knew shots were involved, so I asked Patrick to come with us for the support. William weighs 11 lb 8 oz and is 23 1/2 inches long. His height and weight are in the 50th Percentile, whatever that means. Dr. Kelleher is happy with his growth, so we'll continue breastfeeding at least through our four month check up. Today he had 3 shots and one oral vaccine. William was a trooper, he let out one scream and cried for about 5 seconds. It was all I could do to hold in my own tears. Because William likes to lay on his right side so much it's causing his head to be flat on that side. I have to massage these little knots behind/under his ears daily and encourage him to look toward the left more often. I'm also going to try more tummy time hoping that will help as well.

We have a big weekend ahead of us.  William is being Baptized Sunday!  If anyone is in town and would like to watch, it'll be at 11:00 Mass at St. Aloysius.  

Happy Mother's Day and Birthday

Happy Mother's Day and Happy Birthday to Honey!   

Like the past few weekends, we were on the road again this weekend.  We headed to Thibodaux Friday night for an engagement party and to celebrate Mother's Day with Grandy on Saturday.  Thanks again for my plant, I will try my hardest to keep it alive!  Saturday afternoon we came back to Baton Rouge to meet up with Granna, Honey, Uncle Klein and Uncle John Daniel.  Patrick, my dad, and the boys went to the baseball game while my mom, William and I went shopping.  William is a much better shopper than his dad, he either slept or quietly observed his surroundings the whole time.  We spent today eating and relaxing around the house. 

I can't believe William will be two months old on Tuesday.  It really has gone by so fast, I wish time would stand still.  I can't get enough of this little guy!

Murtle loves to give William kisses, thankfully he doesn't seem to mind. We've made it a few weeks with this paci, maybe Murtle is over eating them?

This is the only picture I took from our weekend in Grand Isle. Hopefully the weather will be better and I'll remember to take more pictures next time.

Trying out our sling...I'm still not sure if it's really for me. I'm sure it's not the best thing for my neck, but I've found that it helps when William needs to be held and I need to be productive.
